The Sweet 16 is the first round of the NCAA tournament that is held at all four of the regional sites. Generally, the Sweet 16 is the goal for most of the lower seeds and most of the higher seed are expected to make it to this third round of the main draw. After college basketball teams compete, they play in the regional final, also known as the Elite 8, to see who goes to the Final Four.

The Sweet 16 portion of the NCAA Tournament will take to the courts on Thursday, March 26 and Friday, March 27. The first day of the 2018 Sweet 16, March 26, will pit qualifying teams from the West & Midwest regions leaving the second day, March 27, to those in the South & East regions.

Locations for the Sweet 16 games include the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California (West), NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas (South), Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio (Midwest), and the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York (East). The teams that come out on top in the Sweet 16 will advance to the NCAA Tournament's Elite 8 games.
